    Farseer Triliogy, Tawny Man Trilogy and Live Ship Trilogy by Robin Hobb. Best books i've read in a while and i read a lot of books.

      Hmmm, thanks for the recommendations; can't help thinking they're all a bit heavy going. I wan't some easy reading but nothing trashy. Mind you, last time I asked the question someone recommended I go out and buy a copy of Bonfire of the Vanities. I did.

      I am quite tempted on checking out the Flashman books though.

            I really enjoyed the Shardlake books by C.J Sansom. The first of the series is Dissolution

              Given your predilection for nosing into other people's diaries how about some biographies?

              You could also try some modern classics. Lord of the Flies and that sort of thing. Or perhaps The Railway Children would be more up your street?
              While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'
