You are just speculating ( wildly guessing) that or have you got some evidence ?

Dude, if I was that good and could accurately predict markets I wouldn't be sitting in my 3 up 2 down posting drivel on an elderly laptop on here now, would I?

        Or course I'm spekulating/talking bolux.

        HTH

        PS Bet I'm right though

To say the markets are not volatile is cretinism of the order that would mildy impress SASGuru.

Dow 1000 pip plunge ring any bells.

About to test the 5K level at the moment.

The shorters must be out in force to drag the index below 5K.

            SY,any thoughts ?

Thought I may pop out for a Guinness and a fag.

Also, it could just be a bit of Friday profit taking?

Why, have they banned Thursday profit taking ?

I thought the definition of 'volatile' in the context of markets meant the amount of options activity. It may have been some time ago, so forgive me if the definition has changed or my remembrance of it is mistaken.

Yes, of course you are right. Also when the FTSE line zig zags up and down is also a good measure of volatility. This time around, as in 2008, market confidence and liquidity are low so things tend to jump around quite a bit. Good news for those with short straddles, and of course the dirty spekulants.

Black-Scholes, ah yes, when I first saw that I muttered: that's the old Bronzin dusted off, didn't work then, won't work now, but there's good money to be made coding it up.
