I live anout 8 miles from its base at Bruntingthorpe. A few of its test flights have gone right over the top of our house. Impressive as flip.

Try and make some time to have a read, it's a great story.

        Smokey thing.
Also pretty nostalgic about them. They were a big part of growing up as my old man flew them for many years and life was based around bases and him on call or going on training trips.
Also saw it last year near Newbury. My father used to work on them back in his RAF days.

Fantastic aircraft, piece of history along with the Spitfire etc

Long may it continue to fly

I used to see a Gloster Javelin at the entrance to staverton airport when I was working up that way, it's an impressive looking thing but I don't think I've ever seen one flying? Still there!

The most jaw dropping thing I've seen is a B-2 Spirit Stealth bomber at Fairford air show, it flew all the way from Edwards air force base in California just to turn around and go back again without landing, all the while it was escorted by 2x F16's. I don't think the USAF do 'green'.

As impressive as it was it didn't make the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end like a Vulcan or Spitfire would, it just looked bloody scary.

Edit: Just found this:Mission 66, what a spiffing bit of British aviation footage... tally ho chaps!

Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

.........Was a 747 Jumbo pulling out of its landing just before its wheels touched....

From a few hundred yards away - I was standing on the apron in the open and it was LOUD!!!

Although watching a similar 747 at full throttle tied to the floor was pretty impressive.... although that was planned so I had Earmuffs.

I don't know why anyone would want to fake that but you can see the exhaust fumes actually going into the engines instead of coming out.

It was done for real a few times, don't know if there's any footage though.
