I take CUK posters at face value. That way, I'm pretty much guaranteed disappointment...

I add truthful reviews to tripadvisor and I do look at the other reviews when picking a hotel.

You are right that some people, quite a lot of people in fact, only post their complaints but they are easy to spot and it can be entertaining to read through them and wonder what these people are on.

There are also some places that have a surprisingly high number of positive reviews from people that have only ever reviewed that same hotel and nowhere else. Those are easy to spot too.

I quite like trip advisor, it's served us well when picking hotels in far flung places (like Aitutaki for our honeymoon).

Would you consider that a reason, some years later, to prevent that person working as a teacher with your child? Probably not. But that’s the reality of storing lots of information and then using it injudiciously. Would you care if your family doctor had been convicted for a pub fight when he was a student but had behaved just fine ever since?
Pub fights aren't likely to stop you from gaining employment. My wife has to carry ECRB checks on any new starters working with vunerable adults and many have minor convictions for the such like.

Well, clearly they're examples of flaws in a system. I was thinking more from a relationship angle, having recently had to listen to a female friend.

Do you really want a gig with a ClientCo who considers you a perm? I know beggars can't be choosers in this climate, so tell them any old waffle they think they need to know, I suppose.

But sex convictions for teenage dalliances? OK, maybe British judges are sensible about this and don't want to convict a 16 year olod for shagging their 15 year old partner, but many foreign courts, especially in the US, see this differently. I once took a look at one of those American 'sex offender' sites and there were people who had had it off with their partner when one party was a couple of days too young and they were just old enough; those people's lives are f**ked for doing something which a hell of a lot of people have done and would be viewed as harmless by most of us, if we're being honest about ourselves. You'd think you can't put randy teenagers in the same category as those priests who fiddled with kids, but it's happening.

Me three. I was about to book a hotel in London t'other day but the massive number of bad reviews put me off. One was titled "Don't stay here. One word: Cockroach"
