The French can get from Paris to the Riviera in <2 hours because the government had the balls to build a high speed link that went straight through.

The UK will get whatever it deserves, don't ever complain about the railway though.

Well France has more than twice as much area as the UK and less population. Thus it's easier to build a high speed link ...

Maybe the UK should have less people then, just how 70m+ people are going to get around in a country with a pre WWII rail infrastructure is anyones guess?

Well the New Labour government won't be happy until the country is stuffed to the gunnels with imigrants.

Having said that I arrived in the UK as a baby and finally became a citizen in the 80's.

They have drawn an arbitrary line for the part that goes through our area without surveying the land to see if it is possible to actually build it there, they have not talked to anybody to get their opinions and the track has been designated as going through a lot of peoples houses and the only time they found out was when it hit the press.

Definitely worth signing IMHO.

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to reconsider destroying the Chilterns with the high speed rail proposal.

The petition is rather emotive and not factual. It would not be “destroying the Chilterns” . The Chilterns is used a toilet for dogs. Let the line be built.

The Conservatives will not build a rail line that flattens even a single blade of grass in their safe seats.

Labour have dangled this line as a carrot to the northern masses. They will get to: a) dig it; b) drive the trains; c) drink beer and puke on it when their teams plays Arsenal or Chelsea.

There is a big petition in May/June. It's called a General Election.

Well I think that for a start this whole idea is stupid. We don't need to slap new railways lines through the middle of residential areas, we need to make the existing ones better.

The poll may not be written amazingly well (hell I didn't write it) but it does cover the issue. Rather than rubbishing the wording on the poll how about looking into the issues and coming up for reasoned arguments as to why a one stop link between London and Birmingham is a good thing if you are pro this?

I personally can't think of anything, it will be useless for the majority of people IMHO.
