Your homeland has produced some of the finest authors, playwrights and literature ever. I have read some of it in translation. To be able to read it in the authors native tongue would be wonderful. Have you never read any of it?Last edited by bogeyman; 10 March 2010, 20:22.
You've come right out the other side of the forest of irony and ended up in the desert of wrong.

Since finishing the Malazan Book of the Dead series (Fantasy - still awaiting the last couple of books to be written) I've been catching up on some classics I missed as a kid - The 39 Steps and Greenmantle by John Buchan. Will be reading Treasure Island, A Man Who Was Thursday and a load of others.
Also reading Iron Fist about the history of armoured warfare, having just read Kommando about the German special forces in WWII.
I read a lot of fiction and non-fiction. There are always interesting authors (new and old) that I havn't read (yet!).
Personally I find it hard to understand people who do not read books (in any form), it must really narrow the mind.Last edited by Coalman; 11 March 2010, 08:41.Beer

A few recent ones:
- Snow White, Blood Red
- Angela's Ashes - not started yet, will have to renew it (if I remember correctly someone here recommended it recently)
- A Confederacy of Dunces
- A collection of short stories by Ruth Rendell. Not your detective type or mystery tales, some stories better than others.
- Ian Rankin's detective novels - having enjoyed a couple from the library I found someone who was leaving the country and had about 15 of them to give away, so I grabbed them. Excellent after spending a day's fruitless search on Jobserve et al. I particularly liked the historical snippets about Edinburgh/Scotland.
Oh, I forgot to add. There are various classics such as Agathie Christie available, with English text and German text on facing pages. Although they are designed as tools for learning English, they work for learning German as well, and if I'm too knackered to bother with German I can still enjoy the story.Last edited by Sysman; 10 March 2010, 22:29.Behold the warranty -- the bold print giveth and the fine print taketh away.Comment
