Thing is, for gigs in the UK or with UK firms, I leave most of my qualifications off the CV.

Where would that fit in this scheme?
Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.

Which was my first thought on reading the article, either there is more to the story than the article says or this was some HR bod trying to make himself look good (or gun for contractors)

Same, not had a "qualification" on my CV since i turned 30 because no longer consider them relevant, people hire me because of my experience now not because of what exams i passed 10 plus years ago

who decides to run this kind of self serving bollux up the CUK flagpole? I have never heard such a load of clap trap nor of this pokey little bottom feeder who I imagine have been in business for all of two minutes. For any newbies out there, fearfull of this tulip, companies want results not a certificate prooving that you did indeed get a 'D' in woodwork, ignore it.

Thing is, in modern management, they have to create these job specifications, and qualifications are important if they are listed there.

"Contractors in the computer jobs market are being warned to stick to the truth, as four senior IT freelancers have had their contracts pulled for lying on their CVs.

The four contractors, who all supplied financial services, were instantly let go after they were unable to prove claims on their CVs about their IT qualifications. "

So what they are saying is that if you are unable to produce proof of your qualifications then that is proof of lying. What a load of blocks. In law is the onus of the accuser to prove allegations not the accused to prove innocence.

To openly accuse a contractor of lying purely because he can’t produce certificates opens the accuser to be sued for defamation.

After have my house burgled and ransacked I certainly would be able to produce certificates from long defunct exam boards.

If someone fakes an IT qualification; it becomes apparent very quickly.

I think it's a trick to replace someone with one of Bob's pals. If someone was already doing the job, they can hardly say they can't find the skills in the UK. Finding a flaw, no matter how trivial, in someones CV gives them grounds to dump them and can be used to support claims of difficulty finding local skills.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

                HR interference?

I fear this may be happening to me right now, I've been put forward at a lower rate than I've seen advertised on 2 other job ads for the same role.

I don't mind if it gets me in the door but I will be questioning this should I get an offer.
