That did occur to me too. I think they pulled back because they did know what is in that tank.

A terrible casualty of the explosion.

Welcome to the Labour Party website. The normal site is temporarily unavailable following an explosion at Buncefield oil depot in Hemel Hempstead on Sunday 11 December.

Part of the offices of our hosting company were extensively damaged, resulting in the loss of our site.

We will be back online as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, if you have any questions, please call us on 08705 900200

Perhaps it really was terrorism, and the Labour website was the intended target!

It wouldn't be terrorism then though. It would be freedom fighters.

            Or pest controllers.

With any luck they won't have a backup and will have to remember all the lies they put in there in the first pace.

Perhaps they'll get the permission from another B/C-list celeb like Patrick Stewart or Richard Wilson to write another load of boll0cks in a pro-liebour email...

From the current terrorist's history they like to kill civilians (generally unlike the IRA in their time) so Sunday was a really bad day to do it. If you wanted to really disrupt the oil based economy of a western power you would blow a few of these depots up at the same time to seriously affect the supply of fuel.

For it to be other than an accident seems implausible.

Anybody else got a whacko conspiracy theory?
Yes, not whacko though but dead true (so someone in the pub told me in confidence) - Gordon Brown secretly arranged the whole thing to prop up the retail price of fuel and maximize his tax receipts.

The snag is apparently that depot only stored 5% of the UK's fuel reserves. So we can expect to see another two or three fuel depots go up in smoke before long

Seriously, makes you think though - That huge smoke plume, even allowing for "collateral combustion" i.e. of stuff other than fuel, is only what would be belched into the air over however long that amount of fuel would normally be used by vehicles. Only a week or two, or a month maybe?

Didn't realise so much was in Hemel Hempstead.

Dixon's HQ is there and is closed, Kodak's only facility for developing Kodachrome films is also closed and apparently destroyed, and As Seen On Screen (asos.com) has ceased trading temporarily due to the damage to their premises.

Good to see the Labour Party have a good Disaster Recovery plan in action. Must have been formulated for them by EDS.

Hmmm. Makes you wonder how the present government would handle a national emergency.

Oh, we've seen how - foot and mouth.
