I have to agree, the limit is there for a purpose and is not only enforceable during the hours of darkness. A drunk driver can kill or maim others at any time of day.

I used to drink after one or two pints or a glass of wine, then an old friend of mine was killed by someone who was driving "the morning after". Now I won't drive at all when I've had any alcolhol and won'd drive the next morning either.

And perhaps there would be less drinking and driving if we had this sort of public information film in the UK. It's safe for work but I'll warn you, it's not easy to watch, especially if you you've got children.

I really think that gets the point across.

It's horrible but to the point. There should be ads like that on our TV too.

I too know of someone who paid a fortune for a taxi home after a night out and left his car behind, then lost his licence the morning after. The problem is you're in the wrong and to be fair their actions have done exactely what they wanted them to do....

He has told his story to god knows how many people who have in turn told the story again...even posting it to 100's on the internet.... although we all know not to drive the next morning this does highlight the fact to us...

However if they had let him off with a warning certain people may think "oh i'll be alright the most i'll get is a warning".

In regards to being slightly over the limit, you then go to the staion for a proper breath test, if he was slightly over then he may have sobered up by the time he got to the station, again if he failed he could have insisted on a blood sample that would have bought him another hour or so getting to the hospital or calling someone out... I think???

I've lost a friend to a guy who was over the limit and I've got children......it really hit me hard.

By the way, whilst the accident footage is obvioulsy staged (brilliantly), the people at the end (the pregnant woman, the woman being lowered into a wheelchair and the woman standing by the telegraph pole) are actually real people who have lost loved ones or been victims themselves.

I'm probably going to get flamed like mad but as far as I am concerned we should not have a "legal limit" - the blood alcohol level should be ZERO.

Then you would throw the book at him.

But you could apply that logic to any driving offence - mobile phone (which I would instantly ban people for), 31 mph in a 30. Sometimes circumstances will punish you far harder than the normal punishment for the crime. Look at the punishment the McCann's got for the offence of leaving their daughter on her own for an hour or two. That's not to say everyone who does it should have their kids taken away from them (by whatever means).

To be fair, I actually agree with this.

There really is only one amount you can drink and be 100% sure you are under the limit.

Nope you don't deserve to be flamed. I agree with you 100%. there should be no grey area when it comes to drinking (or drugs) and driving. Black and white only.

Previously I've used Scooterman - this is a company in London who provides a bloke with a folding scooter. He picks you (and your car) up from the pub, put his folding scooter in the boot and drives you home in your own car. perfect.

The McCanns are a whole other story and I know it's been done to death here on CUK but I still believe they should NEVER have left the children on their own regardless of the circumstance.
