    Too late to retrain??

(Although, suspect it's not recession proof as my treatment normally costs £80 but the dentist has a special offer on, I suspect, because people are not going due to the credit crunch).
Dentists study to be a doctor, four years in most countries. Plus an extra year to specialise.

Barrister, existing degree in any subject plus one year conversion. Two years running around at chambers and then you are £300 plus per hour with little financial overheads and costs.

Yep. Being a dentist is a lot harder than it sounds. They are basically specialised doctors.

I was at a friend's house and his friend an ophthalmic surgeon was also there. He was saying that he knows colleagues who've left the NHS to work privately full time doing just laser surgery and apparently most clear £500K p.a.

He was moaning that the professional indemnity is about £27K a year.

It think I pay about 30 or 40 quid, I never have any problems with my teeth and go down about once every 8->10 months.

NHS doctors are all livid when NHS dentists are pulling in 400 grand and the doctors are taking in 150 grand yet the doctors are pilloried in the press for their take home.

The doctors are adamant that new labour have it in for them and state that the government deliberately release defamatory news to the press about their wage negotiations.
