How would a Somalian fisherman get such identification when they do not have a goverment?

Realistically there is nothing that can be done, the area is too big to be policed. They will just keep lowering the demands until they can be met by the family who will then return and sell their story to recoup the money. The yaught was probably worth more than what they will get in the end.

Capture the Somali pirates and bring them here to Britain to live on a chav council estate on benefits.

He would stay in Somali waters - more than 12 miles offshore and ka-boom Mark 8 shell to the engine room...

If you can't provide a valid name on the arse end your boat then you shouldn't be in international waters anyway...

Allright Claire Short, who rattled your international development chain?

None of the Somali fishermen catch fish any more - they all go for super tankers.

You mean we give those guys food aid as well as taking their asylum seekers and eco migrants! next you'll be telling me we sell em the radar kit to track the ships they capture. Surely time to level the playing field and the country for that matter.

couldnt we check their nets ? If the holes arn't big enough to let a super-tanker through, we could hang them

Well, by firing on a Somali flagged ship in international waters you're effectively starting a war, but seeing as they don't have a government....

On that basis, we could turn their country in to a crystal car-park, and get away with it.

On another note, boats require fuel to run (I doubt they are using wind power for their piracy missions).

Cut the source of fuel, and the pirates will be beached.

Fisherman can still use rowboats and sail to carry out their work however.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
