It sounds so simple, raise taxes for the wealth creators and get them to pay for everything!

This will not work, they will either leave the UK until the situation improves, limit their income to under the limit or pack in and stop creating further wealth, just a crazy idea.
"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance." Cicero

As Arsehole Wenger said there are going to be shed loads of premiership footballers heading to Spain soon to take advantage of their 24% ( I think ) tax they charge.

Yes, tax in France is lower than the UK.

Even in Denmark, tax is lower than the UK now.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

          C.S. Lewis

If at least 4 higher-rate taxpayers stay, for every 1 who leaves, it will be a net gain for the exchequer. Experience suggests that the overwhelming majority of higher-rate taxpayers will not leave, only a few will but they will make a lot of noise.

Threaded, you are correct of course but they won't want to believe it.

This nonsense cliched argument is constantly peddled by special interest groups and is a pile of bollux.
Germany creates more wealth than the UK (documented fact) and its taxes are higher (documented fact).
So lets put this crap argument to bed once and for all.

                HTH.

What would help in this country is if taxes weren't wasted on wars no one really wanted to get involved in, nuclear defence systems we don't need any more, ID cards which take us back 50 years, NHS IT programmes which are never going to finish (let alone finish late) and ******* duck houses.
In the mean time we've got students finishing uni 10's of thousands of in debt thanks to fees introdced by a so called left wing party, generational unemployment with still nothing being done to seriously tackle it resulting in huge social segration and other issues and a public purse thats raped by Browns assumptions of no more "boom and bust"

If the government could get its priorities right it might have a moral stand point when it comes to taxation

                    Bravo, well said!

I also agree with nomadd except, er, I've always thought Ms Emin's quite shaggable . She's got this nervous reaction to being photographed so she always screws up her face. I'm not selling this view, am I?

She used to be my neighbour (as in a couple of streets away), so I used to see in in the local Tesco Express.
She's actually even more like a wasp's backside in real life.
