Longest stint on the contracting bench was 4 months back in 2002. I've been off for 2.5 months so far this time after being made redundant from a permie role but will be going in to another permie role next week so long as I clear the reference/background checks bit - the longest and most thorough application for a job so far, I actually first submitted my CV whilst on gardening leave from my previous role.
Also had 2 months out in 2003 and about 1.5 months in 2007, whilst as a contractor. Other gaps have been measured in days/weeks.Comment

Dabbled a bit in the early part of this year but lost a bit of momentum for various reasons. Will go all out for it in 2010 if my Q4 re-launch is fruitless (as I expect it to be).Comment

I was out for 4 months earlier this year but it included a fortnight's holiday and nearly a fortnight's messing about trying to get everything in place with the client and agency.
However, I was only looking locally and hadn't yet reached the point of looking for Away gigs.Guy Fawkes - "The last man to enter Parliament with honourable intentions."Comment

I was out for 5 months in 2003. Been looking for about 1 month now & can't believe how dead it is. Still waiting for that September surge but i don't honestly think it's coming
