RH posted : Saying tattoo=chav is plainly ignorant and bigoted.
As you yourself say, lots of people have tats, and afaik, it's mainly the working classes, with a growing number of the middle class who want to join the bandwagon for whatever reason (street cred, getting down and funky with the masses, because it looks nice (to them), or whatever.

It's just unfortunate that the tat has historically been associated with the more rougher elements of society which has made it a badge that does polarise opinions.

I suppose the irony is that considering the cost of some of the tats, it's a luxury out of the price range of most of the dole scroungers these days, so anyone sporting a sizable collection is probably well off and employed.

It's just that when the likes of Vikki Pollard and her ilk push past you in the street with their multiple kid buggies in one hand and their cans of White Lightning in the other, and they go to queue outside the local tat parlour, it does tend to leave an impression. You seen one and you think nothing of it. You see two and you ignore. You see nearly every other person in the high street and you begin to wonder.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

As BBG said we all have our own motes, that's what makes us us.

My mote? I don't like arrogant, up-their-own @rse bigots who confuse opinion with fact.

      HTH.
Crikey, "mote" is a bit of an antiquated word isn't it. Or has it been revived, like "pilcrow", which the OED confidently claims was last used in the 1400s?

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Hang on I thought it was chavs? Or do you consider the working class chavs?
I seem to remember you being devastated when you found out you were adopted from a working class background! Does that make you a chav at heart?
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

No no no, not all the WC are chavs, that'd be silly. Chav's are a template which can apply to any social demographic.

As for my adoption at birth, I was shocked to learn of my potential beginnings, but mighty glad I was adopted. Chav at heart ? I could easily have been, and that's a scary and shameful thought.

Having a few "token clubs for women" just in order to pay lip-service to gender equality is a rather sneaky way of saying "Actually, we don't allow women because rules are rules, however, these clubs help our PR by being seen to be accomodating."

                  That's not progressive. That's misdirection.

Progressive is when the UGL open its doors to all.

Until then, it's firmly stuck in the Dark Ages.
The mixed and women only lodges are not connected to UGLE in any way. Do you expect the WI to accept men? Or the Round Table to accept women?

You're advocating change in an organisation that you don't even belong to.
