Leaving aside any growth in population since 2001, that would still suggest that Brazil would, on average, expect to encounter around 500 deaths per week from influenza.

It could be a big deal, bearing in mind that the deaths have almost trebled every week from 4 around the 20th July. If that continues there will be over 1 million deaths within 3 months, according to my calculations just over a week ago. That is ever so slightly more than your predicted 6,000 over that period (ie: 500 x 12 weeks). Time will tell.... no need to be concerned.....

It takes billions and many years to research and develop a drug. Why should the pharma co not get a return on their investment? There is a mechanism of patent expiry that allows generic copying after a period of time - admittedly that is not fast enough in the present case.

If this was a genuine Health concern - they would allow the production of Tamiflu by third world companies to help - surely ??
