    What are you talking about?

£250 a day for 48 weeks is 60k regardless of limited, brolly or size of underpants. It is the gross amount.

How you maximise the take-home from that would be decided by the above.

      Gonzo,

      how is this calculated...

If you were on £60,000 a year as a permie then assuming that what you are doing contract is at a similar level then you should be looking at £600 per day.

      ?

      Milan.

Don't sweat it milan, there will be Burger Kings on Neptune before you earn either amount.

              Yes,

I can get 400 a day in my area but 60k permie a year is well out of my reach.

                http://old.jobstats.co.uk/jobstats.d/Rates.html

                Using raw maths:-

25% of permies earn more than £60k per year.
25% of contractors earn more than £58 per year.

For a permie on £60k to get £600 per day, they'd have to put in >10 hour days.
If we assume a 7.5 hour day, then you could expect to earn an average of £435 per day.

As we all know it's a marketplace, and in contracting it's more of a case of what you know and in permiedom who you know. Therefore, it's quite possible that somebody earning >£100k per year can end up accepting a contract rate of £300 per day and somebody who earned £30k per year getting a contract rate of £600 per day if they have really niche skills and the client's desperate.

Exactly! There are no guarantees! I would have stayed in the permie role and eeked as much life out of it as I could before making the switch, particularly given the way the contract market is at the moment.

I cant say im convinced on that figure of 25% earn more than 58k...

I'm on a relatively low rate and earn a fair bit more than that!
