the Speaker's statement

Well actually No.... The Speaker doesn't actually do much speaking - He is meant to be impartial, un-biased and "above" party politics etc etc....Originally posted by PM-Junkie View PostAnother thought - isn't one of the main requirements of a "speaker" that he should be able to.....speak??
That speach of his was an utter shambles.
But you are right - a 3yr old could speak more coherently than he managed!!

WHS alsoOriginally posted by Peoplesoft bloke View PostYeah - up to a point, however MPs also passed a freedom of info Act and then the speaker spent a good few thousand of our money trying to get it bent not to apply to them (including himself and his not so faultless record of troughing). The irony is that if he hadn't, we wouldn't know as much as we do now about the MPs being on the rob - maybe that's why they're so annoyed with him.Comment

Well yes and no - if he goes, all the other MPs will say "look, problem sorted, now let's draw a line under this and carry on" thereby sidestepping the real issueOriginally posted by FSM with Cheddar View PostFinally some progress.

Yeah, they will try. I'm not sure if there is anything that can stop this witch hunt now though.Originally posted by Platypus View PostWell yes and no - if he goes, all the other MPs will say "look, problem sorted, now let's draw a line under this and carry on" thereby sidestepping the real issue

They can think what they like - everyone outside the House of Commons knows this is only the first head to roll. Joe Public ain't going to be satisfied with just Martin...and if nothing else the MPs will discover this either when they come to be selected by their consituency party (which most of them won't be), or when it comes to the ballot box.Originally posted by Platypus View PostWell yes and no - if he goes, all the other MPs will say "look, problem sorted, now let's draw a line under this and carry on" thereby sidestepping the real issue

There's two issues, an incompetant Speaker who was clearly both biased and out of his depth, and corruption/fraud in the House of Commons. This deals with the first issue, now we turn to the second.
I think this one has a long way to go yet....Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God? - EpicurusComment

It won't work. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.
