The Dawkins logic - just because evolution is improbable, doesn't mean that there's a God. I like it.

From my p.o.v., I think it's infinitely improbable that we're alone.

      The Vatican

The Pope's chief astronomer says that life on Mars cannot be ruled out.

Writing in the Vatican newspaper, the astronomer, Father Gabriel Funes, said intelligent beings created by God could exist in outer space.

Father Funes, director of the Vatican Observatory near Rome, is a respected scientist who collaborates with universities around the world.

The search for forms of extraterrestrial life, he says, does not contradict belief in God.

The official Vatican newspaper headlines his article 'Aliens Are My Brother'.

      'Free from sin'

Just as there are multiple forms of life on earth, so there could exist intelligent beings in outer space created by God. And some aliens could even be free from original sin, he speculates.

Asked about the Catholic Church's condemnation four centuries ago of the Italian astronomer and physicist, Galileo, Father Funes diplomatically says mistakes were made, but it is time to turn the page and look towards the future.

Science and religion need each other, and many astronomers believe in God, he assures readers.

To strengthen its scientific credentials, the Vatican is organising a conference next year to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of the author of the Origin of Species, Charles Darwin.

        NASA astronaut Buzz Aldrin

Buzz Aldrin remarked, "There was something out there that, uh, was close enough to be observed and what could it be?...Mike (Collins) decided he thought he could see it in the telescope and he was able to do that and when it was in one position, that had a series of ellipses, but when you made it real sharp it was sort of L shaped.'

"NASA knew very little about, um, the object reported by the Apollo 11 crew. It was obviously an unidentified flying object,' said Senior NASA scientist, Dr. David Baker. "But such objects were not uncommon and the history of even earth orbit space flights going back over the previous years indicated that SEVERAL CREWS SAW OBJECTS" (emphasis mine).

"Now, obviously, the three of us were not going to blurt out, 'Hey Houston we got something moving along side of us and we don't know what it is,' observed Aldrin. "We weren't about to do that, cause we know that those transmissions would be heard by all sorts of people and who knows what somebody would have demanded that we turn back because of Aliens or whatever the reason is, so we didn't do that but we did decide we'd just cautiously ask Houston where, how far away was the S-IVB?'

The S-IVB served as the third stage on the Saturn V and second stage on the Saturn IB. It had one J-2 engine. For lunar mission it was used twice: first for the orbit insertion after second stage cutoff, and then for the trans lunar injection (TLI). Now NASA reported the separated stage 6,000 miles behind. Obviously they didn't detect any UFO.

Aldrin replied: "And a few momentswe decided that after a while of watching it (UFO), it was time to go to sleep and not to talk about it anymore until we came back and (went through) debriefing."

NASA scientist, David Baker said, "There were a lot of people within the program who went off later and became convinced that UFOs existed and that led to some concern on NASA's part where they got the agreement of the crew never to publicly talk about these things for fear of ridicule."

Yes. Some time ago scientists seeking extraterrestrial intelligence were amazed when they received what seemed to be a regular, intelligent signal at the radio telescope in Puerto Rico (I think it was Puerto Rico; Alfred will correct me if I’m wrong). After a little while the signal disappeared but had been recorded and scientists then spent all week furiously analyzing the signal, thinking they might have received a message from the little green men. Precisely one week later, and again a week later, the signal was heard again. One bright and skeptical chap, possibly a software tester, was a little skeptical as to whether the little green men would be using an earthly concept of a week to send their regular signals, so the whole surrounding area was combed for clues. The investigation concluded that a local woman’s washing machine was incorrectly installed and was interfering with the receiver during her weekly washing chores.

Even highly intelligent people believe what they want to believe.

Al, all your sources are crap.

But of course we have big eyed, coneheaded, cattle molesting, extra terrestrial midgets just waiting to get your rectal tissue sample.

Please do not let facts, common sense or other logic get in the way of your delusional little world.

              Mikhail Gorbachev

The Soviet Union mysteriously gave up its position as one of the world's greatest powers and splintered into multiple nations. Its leader at the time was Mikhail Gorbachev who has made several public statements about the reality of a covert extraterrestrial presence visiting Earth.

He stated, 'The phenomenon of UFO's does exist, and it must be treated seriously.' Perhaps Mikhail Gorbachev's Kremlin speech in 1987, is the key to understanding why billions are being spent, when he said, "At our Geneva meeting, the US President (Reagan) said that if the earth faced an invasion by extraterrestrials, the United States and the Soviet Union would join forces to repel such an invasion. I shall not dispute the hypothesis.*"

Russia and the US continue modernizing their anti-ballistic missile (ABM) system that is designed to counter ballistic missiles and is sometimes called the Star Wars System. Two ABM systems have been operational against ICBMs, the U.S. Safeguard system, which utilized the LIM-49 Spartan and Sprint missiles, and the Russian A-35 anti ¨Cballistic missile system which used the Galosh interceptor. The Russian system has been improved and is still active, and is now called A-135 and uses the Gorgon and Gazelle missiles. The U.S. Ground-Based Midcourse Defense system has recently reached operational capability and is shown in the photo below. It does not use an explosive charge, but launches a kinetic projectile that may be effective against UFOs.

These immensely costly systems are the most expensive weapons systems for both countries. They seem extraneous when compared with Russia's most pressing security problems, and the US war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Both nations are spending billions to improve their so called Star Wars Systems and are jointly working together in space.

The real question is why both countries are determined to put so much of their resources into an anti-missile system, when the greatest threat of nuclear attack is from weapons that would likely be smuggled into a target city aboard trucks, aircraft or ships. Russia's conventional armed forces are woefully inadequate and US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan are under stress while billions are being spent on so called anti missile systems that may be effective against UFOs.

It was either that or face empty churches.

From a religious point of view it is really interesting:

                  Alien: Hi
                  Human: Hi
Alien: So, who is your god?
Human: Well some bloke called Jesus who is the son of god (and is god) died and then came alive again to forgive us of our sins.
Alien: Are we talking about the same god here? Because we don't have sin on our plannet, and our god certainly wouldn't kill himself.

                  etc etc

The point I'm getting at, is that if there is a god, he/she may have screwed up on this planet, but got it right somewhere else. So we all suffer from his experiment gone wrong, but they get paradise.

"What is it with aliens always probing peoples rectums? Surely if thy've got the technology to travel halfway across the universe, they've got the imagination to think of something better to do than stick things up our arses"

What is paradise without hell? If there is no misery and suffering, how do you enjoy the good bits?
