"They fought for our country etc." Actually, they got paid for a job they chose to do because by the standards of Nepal it provided a darn good living. Now, although some have served for as little as fifteen years, they are to receive the same NHS care and state pension in old age as British soldiers although most of the money they received did not stay in Britain to stimulate our economy but went to Nepal. In all that large number I am betting there are going to be some undesirables, criminals etc and it is right to treat this on a case by case basis.

The arrangement is an anachronism that should be ended. Pay British troops.
Clearly, you don't know the first thing about the gurkhas or their history.

On them! On them! They fail!

It's clear that you know little about anything.

The Indians and Pakistanis (and the rest of the empire) fought for us during WW2 so should we let all of them in as well?

Edit: Come to think of it. They're here aren't they..... We've already let them in

AFAIK Commonwealth citizens serving in the British army are automatically awarded citizenship.

I think you should be grateful that them and the Chinese (alongside with other nations) did not ask UK to repay years of occupation and plundering of their own land - opium wars alone would probably qualify as war crime now.

The vikings plundered much of England in the middle ages. Should we be asking the Scandies for compensation?

Do you see the difference between that and opium wars and extermination camps?

The scale (and time period) of these events are very different.

Or the Celts, Romans, Angles, Saxons and French for that matter........

On topic I do hope that the Gurkhas get residence, their contribution has been significant.

Roman legionaries had to complete 25 years' service to get Roman citizenship, back in the day.

Fact is we ain't Rome! Let them in.
