      DA,

the current situation of our relationship reminds me of the words in the Beach Boys song where they say...

"The bad guys all know us and they leave us alone"

What about Iraq, will you finally support that going to Iraq has been a monumentous feckup ?

      http://news.independent.co.uk/world/...icle320343.ece

Are British troops at breaking point in Iraq?
Fears that British forces in Iraq are reaching "breaking point" grew last night as the first hard evidence of a crisis in morale began to emerge.

not to mention the costs, the bombings in Laaaaaaaaaandan etc

Of course he did, he is in business after all, but he still came in 3K cheaper than anyone else and I got a couple of extra jobs done.
        Its all about negotiation.

I think I won this one.

See not real problem with a days trial but would insist on a few things first.
            1) A call direct to the client so you can "interview" them to make sure the contract is what the agency says it is. I think we have all had interviews where we discovered job is nothing like the agency described
            2) Travel expences are covered. If there are no real travel expences then ask for a nominal fee just so the other side is showing good faith and not wasteing your time on a total long shot.

Three pages, I'm impressed. Unfortunately I was out the last hour so couldn't comment more until now.

Some interesting replies, most I guess leaning towards my gut feeling on this, especially privateeyes comment on it being some sort of sales trick where they're trying to push the client into taking you on. It just has that sort of feel to it, a bit too suss.

It keeps reminding me of a scam I read years ago where certain companies would take people on under some gov't scheme where there was a weeks probation period in which the company didn't have to pay anything, then when it ended would tell the person they weren't up to scratch then just get the next one in.

"sounds a bit wierd that they can't suss out from an interview whether or not you have the required skills"

The angle the agent was trying to put on this is that it's only a short contract and the client needs someone asap and doesn't want to be faffing about spending time arranging interviews.

Still, even if thats the case, having worked for CF before they have a number of good references to show to the client if they really need someone to just come in and do a job asap. Another agency I worked for years ago got me a short fill-in contract on that basis, i.e. references, short interview, start next day.

As for expenses it wouldn't cost me anything except my time as I've been on holiday until now.

                    Still, my feeling so far...
