I am giving the booze a rest for a while. Punishing myself on the bike this weekend. Just seen the detailed itinerary for my cycle to Paris and the first day is 92 miles. Kent is not flat!

92 miles is quite a long ride ... I did a charity one once in NYC (The 5 bouroughs bike ride) and that's about 80 odd and is pretty flat, and I was fVcked by the end of it ...

My worry is the recovery time. 92 miles on day one is ok. It's getting up the next day and doing it all over again that has me worried. By day 4 I'll be properly wrecked.

I hear there's some medicine that long distance cyclists can take to make them last the pace.

Canny remember the name, but google it - they're always at it

I use the Powerbar energize and recovery drinks - in powder form. Add 4.5 scoops of the former to a 750ml bottle of water (scale up for a hydropack) and it's like lucozade sport x100 (you'll probably need 3 litres in a camelbak for your 92 mile journey). 2 scoops of the latter in 200ml water 20mins after workout and just before sleep really helps keep that lactic acid at bay.

Miracle stuff. No Aspartame/toxic rubbish either.

Been there done that, via Newhaven, Dieppe, Rouen, Versailles (and on past Paris to the South of France).

ISTR my journey in the UK was through Sussex rather than Kent.

edit: The energize and recovery drink I used was Cherry Brandy
