It's no "Wire" or "Sopranos" but I really enjoyed it
Sopranos - current favourite ever american show. Watched them all now though.

The wire - started series one episode one last night. You need to concentrate to follow the dialog, but I think its going to be worth it.

Addendum - on recommendation of doctor friends have also started House. Enjoyable, but format is repetitive.

Best thing I've watched in years

Brilliant in depth characterisation of realistically flawed people doing their thing on both sides of the legal fence. Demands concentration, but you more than get out what you put in.

I tend not to watch a lot of TV, but when I got the first season boxed set on a recommendation, I couldn't stop until I'd bought and seen all five seasons. I'd happily watch it all again too! Just a shame my girlfriend didn't stick with it beyond the third episode of season one, as she now thinks I'm exaggerating about how good it was! Stick with it through the first season and you'll be glad you did!

Just for the record, Omar has got to be one of the coolest characters of any TV series.

      IMHO

I suppose I quite like it. I'm not even a fan of TV in general, I would generally class a long-running drama like this as a complete waste of my time much like computer games and yes, the Wire has taken a lot of my time but I don't feel it's been wasted, really.
I'm not a fan of TV either, but what you describe is something that can be done in a TV series, and in no other medium IMHO.

Got to agree with that - I'm watching season 4 at the moment and the knifing scene in prison is...well....

            Not watched any yet but...

            1) Why have the BBC decided to put them on so frequently?

            2) Why haven't sky numbered the episodes in the synopsis?

            3) Why has my Sky box decided to not bother recording last nights episode despite it being on series link??

From what I've read on here you can't afford to miss a second or you'll lose the plot, now I have the hassle of downloading from Iplayer but even then I'll have to watch the others first before it disappears in 7 days… Feck it, I’ll get the DVD.

Thanks but I've managed to fill my iPod without iTunes so I'm not about to change a habit of a lifetime.
