Cheques generally take a day or 2 extra to clear (Banks fault not theirs), but they seem pretty fair on all other matters.
I tried them about 20 years ago and I'm pretty sure it took a bit longer than that for cheques.

Just before Christmas I read that every single building society which had demutualised and gone the full bank route had subsequently failed. It makes me want to say "Told you so", except I that I never imagined the actual result would be so bad.

anyone see BBC news last night? there was an item on this. They grabbed a few RBS staff coming out of their offices and asked them if they thought they should be getting bonuses.

First lady - "Yes, I deserve it"

Next bloke - "No, I don't think staff should be given bonuses".

The thing was, they did a close up of the guys ID badge, which blatantly had a big red stripe on it, which as we all know marks him out as one of us (i.e contractor). I worked at RBS for a while so I know this.

Or am I the only one anal enough to spot this?

A government that dishes out multi-billion loans without clauses to restrict 'misuse' of those funds rightfully deserves ridicule. I've given up with HMG with regard to them doing what they say they will do. It's all soundbites, spin, no action and incompetence.
