Those phone calls don't sound like they were from a proper IT company. Certainly not one that could ever hope to make any money. Probably a terrible attempt to get your bank details.

Similar experience 6 years ago.
When at a well known Bank I became good friends with a TCS Oracle Bod [who was actually good at his job albeit slower] and he was telling me the industry tricks over their - from memory [and this was 2003]
- when they get interviewed they are on a conf call with MUTE
- if they cant do the above - there is another guy in another room on google or with 3 other of the "senior" people
- they will bid the lowest for projects as they know for a fact that they can throw in [back then] 15+ people for every one in the UK
- if they dont have the skills they dont have an issue in poaching from another Indian company - competition from the top 5 over their in India is fierce and generally techies can play each other off.
thats all I remember - but im sure theres othersComment

The Indians are actually ahead of the game. They've been recruiting heavily in places like Rumania and Poland to get smart techies on-board for relatively low wages. Watch a load more jobs get outsourced to EE. Have to say I admire their tactics even though it's more nails in our coffins.Originally posted by minestrone View PostWhat is all this stuff about visa restrictions for them? Why would Eastern Europeans work for crap money for Indians when they could just go direct to European owned companies or form their own?
I fail to see how the Indians are "adding value".Comment

Substitute "Indians" for "agents" and it begins to make sense.Originally posted by GreenerGrass View PostWhy would Eastern Europeans work for crap money for Indians when they could just go direct to European owned companies or form their own?

sorry but this is nonsense. Primarily due to the mindset of the Indian companies and how they like to keep things with their own. EE would and can get normal UK rates without an issue...regardless of replacing it with "agents" or not.Originally posted by MrMark View PostThe Indians are actually ahead of the game. Sorry, but I know differently. I can't name the company concerned (as they're getting rid of the current programming services company), but they've found an outfit based in Bucharest founded by an Indian enterprise.Originally posted by Liability View Postsorry but this is nonsense. If your argument was correct, none of us would ever need to use agents, as we would "get normal UK rates without an issue"!!! The reality is we need the contacts (and the endless networking/research/fishing) that the agents give us in order to get the work fairly quickly.
Incidentally, there may be a "mindset" with some Indian companies as you so eloquently put it, but plenty are quite astute and willing to take business opportunities, even if it doesn't "keep things with their own". But hey, let's see how it pans out. Proof will be in the pudding.Speaking gibberish on internet talkboards since last Michaelmas. Plus here on TwitterComment

that was my point - they may start in other areas but they will seldom get in a position where they dont have control.Originally posted by MrMark View PostSorry, but I know differently.
