I want nice, quiet, boring cases. People contesting parking fines and the like. No gangsta tulip or 12 month fraud cases please.Originally posted by WageSlaveDon't forget to post all the details on here each night.Comment

(slightly moving off topic here briefly) - What's the situation about refusing to do jury service due to work?If you think my attitude stinks, you should smell my fingers.Comment

That's not too bad, surely. Hopefully you should avoid the major fraud cases and big murder trials <he said naively>.Originally posted by Lucifer BoxBlackfriars.

If you point blank refuse, you go to prison for contempt of court. As the accompanying literature explains, it is your civic duty and you can only be exempted because of your type of job (you are a high court judge, for instance) or because you are physically or mentally incapable. There are no other excuses permissible and "I'm too busy" or "my business cannot spare me or it will go bankrupt" are listed as example of unacceptable reasons.Originally posted by hyperD(slightly moving off topic here briefly) - What's the situation about refusing to do jury service due to work?
You can defer your service once (for about 3 months usually), listing the periods in advance within the next 12 months when you cannot attend. When next called you must attend or go to prison, unless there are extreme unforseen circumstances.Comment

Apparently Blackfriars handles quite a few gangsta cases. They had the bloke who pretended to be an MI5 agent for years and kept all those agricultural students hostage there a couple of weeks ago.Originally posted by voronThat's not too bad, surely. Thanks LB, I should be OK for the "mentally incapable" excuse.
(Back to topic) anyone seen the irony of this whole incident: Jack Straw harping on about the only reason for being in Iraq is for democracy and free speech, one of his party members shouts "Nonsense" and he is read the Terrorist act!!!
It could only happen in the loony party...If you think my attitude stinks, you should smell my fingers.Comment
