Israel may not have been firing shots, but it's not really a ceasefire if you surround your enemy and cut them off from the outside world by force. Hamas could never have accepted that situation, and Israel knew it. In short, Israel was just as guilty of provoking a response as Hamas was with its rockets.

The best hope for a solution to all this is if conditions improve enough in Gaza and the rest of Palastine that they stop seeing Israel as the cause of all their problems. Economic blockades and occasional invasions are no way to acheive that. Unfortunately Israel seem to only ever fight fire with petrol.

Hamas simply don't want peace so I see no solution but to wipe them out. Israel have the means to do it so I don't blame them at all. At the end of the day, they lose fewer lives fighting than sitting back and waiting for suicide bombers, rockets etc.

All very well but nobody else is doing it, and they never have.

So it's okay for Israel to want to wipe out Palestine, but not the other way around?

What are the chances of Alexei Sayle and Red Ken both getting hit by baton rounds?

Israel are doing it for self-preservation. Hamas etc would be doing it so that they can then move on to wiping out the next country of infidels !!

Who was firing the rockets? If they hadn't been doing that for the preceeding months, nobody would have an excuse to try and stop them.

PS Israel are not trying to wipe out the Palestinians. That's anti-Israeli rhetoric. If they are, they are doing a bad job of it.

A very niave outlook to a very complex situation. Most people condone any violence but some folk are simply prepared to turn a blind eye to whatever israel does. That doesnt mean arab \ muslim states should do as they want either but israel's response is to kill civilians in theire hundreds.

Hamaz' ploy to use civilians as a shield is reprehensible but so too is israel's indiscriminate slavos into those areas en mass.
