    Whoosh.

A friend of mine felt he had to buy one a couple of years ago when he became captain of a golf club.

What's wrong with a Kia Carens diesel? Mine goes perfectly well from office to client and back. It can stand motionless along with all the other M1 rush-hour traffic, or move at 60 miles an hour, along with all the other M1 rush-hour traffic.

And then I can fill it with stuff to carry about at the weekends.

We've done this so many times in the past: Get the ultimate in contractor vehicles by paying cash for a 2nd hand Mazda 6 MPS, is a way better car.

Go on, do a Pepsi challenge: compare the specs and go for a test drive, you'll taste the difference.
you see I did not long about (about a few weeks) I needed to replace the current family wagon - it came to the Mazda 6 or a Mondeo - winner (on price as well as driveability, spec etc) was the Mondeo!!

Mazda had a better sound system in terms of speakers mind you but apart from that....

Im not considering buying one, you'd just lose thousands in depreciation!

I'd only contract hire it. Works out cheaper and no depreciation issues.

And who wants a mazda or Kia to drive up to 3 hours a day, ffs!?

I am looking at contract hiring a Mini Cooper D on a 3 year lease. In this climate can probably haggle the price down to around £175 a month including a 5 year/50K mile TLC service/maintenance contract.

72 mpg combined and only 106 g/km CO2 makes it very tax friendly as a company car.

If only the government would realize, or rather admit, that Diesel emissions are no longer higher/dirtier than petrol and that the 3% premium for a diesel car on Cotax is basically a con!

I've never found a contract hire deal that works out cheaper than buying
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

                  Seriously?

XF has a cash price of approx £32k OTR.

                  Contract hire 36 months at £600 pcm = 21.6k. Saving 10.4k

If you buy the car using a loan expect the total price including interest on loan, loss of interest on cash used as deposit for OTR price over 36 months to be approx 45k ergo a saving of approx 43k!

Dude, if you buy car for £32k you will still have this car in 3 years (depreciation won't be 66% either - at least one should not buy such car) - in case of contract hire you will have no car in 3 years and £22k down the drain - probably get stung by small print for more money.

Get Ford Mondeo, it's cheaper and looks like that jag.

No, you spend 21.6k to rent the car over 3 years. The residual value belongs
to the lease company. I.e. 21.6 k loss

Contractors don't take out loans to buy cars!

If you buy the car cash it will be worth at least 15k after 3 yrs, so 17k loss

your 17k in the bank for 3 years would give no more than 1500, less after tax

                      In conclusion
say 18k cost over 3 years if bought with cash

                      21.6k loss if hired
