    Quite yer moaning Boris.

If you want auto-extending auctions, try swoopo, if you're stupid enough...

Bollocks. It's a time limited auction. If you want to win it, bid the maximum you're prepared to pay - don't stick little bid in then change your mind just because somebody bid more.

I agree with you that it's frustrating, but you could always join the snipers if you want.

I don't want to join them, I'd rather not use Ebay, which is the case already unless they are the only possible source for what I want like was in this case. I don't anticipate returning to them until 2010.

I did not stick little bid. The starting bid was £5, I put £20, final sell price was £26 - I would have bid higher if I had the chance, snipers however work by avoiding direct competition (which defeats purpose of auction) - it's not like I bid £5 for something that is worth £1000 and complain that someone bought it for £800 - no, I just received email about being outbid just like 30 seconds before auction was over so I did not have chance to revise my bid - that fks up sellers and ultimately Ebay gets less commission. Extending auction by 15 mins a few times would have improved things because in this case I'd bid higher.

We all understand what happened AtW. The fact remains that you didn't enter the auction in the spirit of Ebay. You're supposed to bid the maximum you're willing to pay. You didn't do that, you can't complain.

So why that sniper guy did not bid maximum he wanted to pay during the auction rather than using the last minute? Is this the spirit of Ebay you referring to when good bidders like me get fooked by snipers? Fook this spirit.

Anyway, I got what I wanted from another seller - paid £5 for same stuff rather than £20, but if I had a chance to outbid that sniper I'd do it, sadly retarded Ebay spirits did not allow me to do that. Won't be bidding again unless I absolutely have to.

You see, that's your problem. You did have the chance, but you chose to put a low bid in then try to top it up if necessary. You should've put your maximum in to start with.

Maximum bids change depending on competition - thats the nature of auctions. Sniping goes against this nature by avoiding actual competition in bidding process - this is, like counting cards in blackjack in Monaco, should be banned illegal practice.

Practical way for solving this is extending auction or ending it randomly so that nobody wait till last second to make bid.

I vote with my money - I won't be using ebay again unless I am totally desperate.
