Depends on car/ make of parts used etc.

He went back there to ask them exactly what they had checked and more importantly, how they managed to get the wheels off without having the key for the locking wheel nuts.

And then did the kwik fit bloke run off down the road and hide?

I drove an Alfa 166 2.4 jtd, which is a bloody heavy car, for 170,000 (100,000 miles) kilometers before needing new brake discs. The pads were replaced a couple of times, but not the discs. But then maybe it depends on how big and think the discs are; on the Alfa they were great big heavy metal things. And perhaps I have a more relaxed driving style.

Kwic Fit really are world class shysters.

On my first ever car, when fitting new tyres they charged me £x (can't remember how much) to "fix the tracking".

Utter bollocks as my mechanic saw the bolts were still rusted on when he serviced the car 3 weeks later...

Had front discs and brakes changed last month but went to Kwik Fit for a quote anyway - £245

Most expensive quote from local garages £130 and had it done for £115.

              Wrong Car!!

When i worked as a permie in Bristol, a colleague had a mobile tyre firm come out to where we worked to replace a tyre. They turned up, he went down to the reception and told him which car was his and went back to work. about 30 minutes later gets a phone call from reception to say his car was finished and could he come and pay the bill.

Before paying he went to check all was ok only to find his car still had all teh originakl tyres fitted - the guy had put the new tyre on the wrong car!! It wasnt even the same make let alone the same colour!!

Didn't understand the last bit but my point is that a few months ago they didn't ask to change the front discs but did change the back ones. Then a few months later another garage decides that the front discs have now gone into a poor state and that I should get them replaced (£160). I'm suspicious of garages at the best of times, but especially so when it comes to brake discs as it seems to be the most common scam.

As Churchill said, I'm going to get them checked elsewhere.

                I preferred version 1!

If you've got a jack and a spanner, it's reasonably easy to check them yourself -

Then again, why have a dog and bark yourself. YMMV.
