The missus was offered a credit limit increase of 2.5 grand on one of her credit cards last week.

Doesn't quite match the picture being painted by the media.

My Amex limit was increased last week too.
I didn't think unsolicited increases were fashionable any more.

As I said a couple of weeks ago, we are always being TOLD that there are factories/businesses closing, but I haven't personally seen any yet. It's difficult to work out if busienss churn is being painted as closures, or what.

From a personal perspective, I don't personally know anybody out of work because of the CC, I haven't seen any business close because of it. I don't personally know of any contractors on the bench and don't want to be.

The town centres are still mobbed with people shopping, go try buying a Wii Fit in your high street. Supermarket checkouts seem busier these days. I've been to nice restaurants a couple of times in the last month, and I've had to book, we almost didn't get into the 2nd one last week due to demand.

I don't doubt something is on the way, because I don't believe so many clever people can be mistaken. but I haven't seen any sign of it yet.

It could be true, people may be having a last splurge before it all goes to tulip. It wouldn't surprise me. If you're into the tulip on your cerdit cards for 20 grand, why bother about putting another 5 on it and havign one last good Crimbo.

              It's perfectly possible, I suppose.

According to an article I read on Citywire this morning, which proposed the idea that we should look to where the credit crunch started for signs of when it will end - which I guess has a degree of sense to it. Anyhow this article pointed to an increase in property being bought in the States and new homes being built despite the sub prime lending probs.

I reckon BTL is back on and everyone should be snapping up these tasty £150K bedsits in northern "up and coming" areas.

                  http://www.ftadviser.com//FTAdviser/...-up-prices.jsp

The new homes mortgage specialist claims that prices for new builds will rocket as the supply and demand imbalance worsens.

The number of new home starts has fallen 50 per cent over the last year, according to figures from NHBC for October.

Nic Spaull, managing director of New Homes Mortgage Helpline, said: "New homes are a safe option compared to the second hand homes market, as the economic crisis has resulted in the number of new homes built this year falling a long way short of the government's targets.

"Those that are able to secure themselves a new home over the next few months are likely to see the value of their home well protected, and when the market recovers, new home values are set to rise considerably."

A strong primary market together with a week seconary one is good for investment!

Sounds like Atw economics to me.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.
