There's something earthy and nostalgic about using a manual drill rather than an electric one. You get a much better feel for what you're drilling (cue the crude remarks). You can almost feel the character of the wood itself.

And you don't end up with a bit of ‘fourbetwo’ wobbling round at 9,000 rpm as you go straight through it in .00001 of a second.
