Labour won't raise taxes - why should they, just leave it for the tories. Election spring 2009.

Britians budget deficit is astronomical (I referred to it last week, mistakenly as GDP)
"Britain already has the biggest budget deficit of any industrial country."

A promise they stuck too. They have introduced 100s of other stealth taxes and by leaving thresholds alone they have effectively brought more people into higher brackets.

Just wonder what sort of weasel words and spin they will use for the new/alternative taxes they introduce. Road pricing? Congestion charging? Pay per [insert service name here]?
Well as long as it is "fair".

          Clean Air Tax

To appease the environmentalists and tap in to the new whipping stick to keep the proles in line.

          Paper Tax

Paper comes from trees, dunnit ? So all paper based materials are going to cost more.

Bank notes are made of paper, so therefore a Paper Money Tax on your paper money. The only exemption will be for the Daily Express, as it is the voice of the Party. Unfortunately, since toilet paper is included in this tax, citizens will use their Daily Express instead. Oh the irony !

          Family Size Tax

Bigger families place more demands upon the national services and infrastructure. So either limit families to 0-2 children, or pay for the priviledge.

          Free Energy Tax

If free energy is ever discovered, the subsequent loss to the Exchequer would be apocalyptic. Imagine if solar power was 100% efficient and the country ran everything on solar power. There'd be no money from vehicle fuel to fill the coffers. Therefore, "free energy" will never be "free".
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I know every outgoing administration leaves an absolute mess for the successor, along with a few "poison pills" I'd warrant, but I really do think the next administration are going to be shocked when they see the books...

You didnt get it did you? The key is not to include the word tax in the pricing system otherwise people will see through it. Your taxes would be.

                CO2 exchange charge.
Pay per tulip or is that sheet.
Pay per pup. Which be known as the dilation rate.
Pay per switch (as in on/off switch).
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

The Tories should get an independent company in to scrutinise the books and public advertise the level of spending, waste and national debt, as well as the level of claimants, unemployment, public sector pension and PFI commitments etc, so that they can start with a clean slate, and also to justify why taxes will probably have to rise.

They can also use these figures to justify cuts in public sector employment, welfare benefits of long-term scroungers and possibly withdrawal from the EU, which is estimated to cost almost 50 Billion pounds a year by 2013 !!!

... and thanks Tony for dumping Maggies' EU rebate !!
