back on topic, this is going to hit the economy hard, people have to buy petrol, so the increased cost will come out of the household budget and mean savings elsewhere - in the chav world this will mean fish fingers for tea instead of fresh fruit and veg and meat, in other worlds this will mean less spending on white goods, brown goods, restaurants etc, eventually it will knock onto house prices as people realise they are not as rich as they thought and as jobs start to go because of reduced spending and higher costs

future's bright and christmas is coming !

It won't affect inflation though as the government inflation figures (which exclude mortgage payments, fuel costs and basic foodstuffs, but do include those chocolate biscuits with the hole in the middle and green nylon hats) are steady as always. Gordons steady hand at the the helm. Nothing to fear folks.

well it looks like the Germans are poised to take advantage of demand for rape-seed-oil diesel...

'global agribusiness giants are also undertaking major biodiesel projects in Germany. US group Cargill recently announced construction of a production plant in Mainz in central Germany to be operational in 2006',

Oh, you Germans are so ahead of the game. “operational in 2006”?

The Biofuels refinery near Middlesborough is already operational.

It actually makes me angry that NL has almost the same level of duty on biodiesel as normal diesel when biodiesel does not add to the carbon levels in the atmosphere and reduces our dependency on middle east oil and all the problems that brings.

Why not let Britains buy biodiesel duty free Gordon you fat ****?

Or buy anything that's delivered by lorry? Or travel on trains?

I don't think the increase will be passed on as much on derived products and services such as train tickets, Oyster cards etc than on straight petrol at the pump.
Does the tube use petrol engines?

Eg. Fuel cost 20p, price including tax 100p, so 80% tax.

                      NO, 400% TAX YOU *****!
