Fog City Diner...a real American experience.

    Alcatraz is really good...

Coit tower is worth going up for great views of the city.

Lombard street if you are in a car (famous road)

I second the Alcatraz recommendations. The audio tour is really informative and atmospheric. Also, SF Museum of Modern Art can be interesting.

Everyone eats breakfast at Mama's on Washington Square.

            Evening meals, try Town Hall.

Remember, food is served in American portions. Never order a large.

If you see anywhere serving Fat Tire, order a pint.

Despite the hills, it's a very walkable city if you're reasonably fit, and quite compact by American standards.

              Another vote for Alcatraz !!

Cable Car - buy an all day ticket.

              Golden Gate Bridge

A City Tour is good for seeing most of the sights.

Slightly further afield - Muir Woods (redwood)

Best to go to asian restaurants. Very good chinese/japanese restaurants and also rather authentic. Also mexicans (you will hardly find real mexican restaurants in Europe).

Try to avoid italian, perhaps only go to Steps of Rome (http://www.stepsofrome.com/) in North Beach which used to be owned by a proper roman person and the food was very authentic.
I've seen much of the rest of the world. It is brutal and cruel and dark, Rome is the light.

You will shocked, pleasantly, by the price of sushi in SF, if that's your taste.

North America in general it's pretty cheap. I was shocked by how cheap, and how many places in Canada do sushi, even the remotest godforsaken towns there have hidden sushi treasures. Fk knows why.
