    My father was a sailor
    named Captain Kennedy
    He lost his wooden schooner
to the Germans on the sea
    Exploded on the water
    for everyone to see
    And humiliate that American
    Captain Kennedy.

I saw him in Nassau in 1971
    His strength was failin'
but he still ran a run
    He worked 'til his fingers
    wore to the bone
    To buy that wooden schooner
    and sail on his own.

He was known in the islands
    as hundred foot iron
    That steel hull freighter
    was passin' its time
    And time flew by faster
    with life on the sea
    And the days grew shorter
    for Captain Kennedy.

Damned if I know that one - given the depressing tone of the lyrics I would moot the old crooner Mr L Cohen - but just a wild guess.

Excuse me while I kiss the sky ..

If you dont know the album in question it is a bit of a tour de force - I didnt care much for the rest of the bands albums save one other - there you have it.

Hard Luck Moose - another clue - they are/were very much an English 'progressive' Band - though I did see Wishbone Ash with the Jam at a festival in Loch Lomond - impressive rendition of the Phoneix I recall.

cohen is not so far away. it's based on a real jfk incident during ww2 not that that really helps identify the artist.

Sounds like Crazy Horse to me.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

                  Aye DS23

Having Googled the solution I wasnt that far off the mark I guess.

I expect EO will probably figure this one.

Gosh - Ive not had so much fun since Grandma died !

it's from early80's iirc. artist released album and during promotion repeatedly voiced his support for ronald reagan's policies. he's always veered from one thing to another. a recent release was all for impeaching the president. damn - i've said too much.
