You ARE talking about Reading Rock Festival aren't you? Not WOMAD, which is on the same site.

This years lineup is the strongest in a good few years and the corporate sponsorship has gone. I know music is subjective but to say T in the Park has more soul (obviously not in the Aretha Franklin sense) than Reading is pushing it to the extreme...

I go to WOMAD every year, been to four TITP and two Readings (And a few other festivals), and the last reading I went to I have to say T in the park crapped all over it.

I've no vested interest in saying anything negative, I just found when wandering around Reading that most of the people there were pretentious, and not in it for the music but purely because it was a cool thing to do these days Slight worry Glasto may be the same). The line up was strong, and I saw some amazing acts, but the crowds were rubbish. TITP the crowd gets right into it and creates an amazing energy, WOMAD is great cause it's the last proper festival that only has people there who're in it for the music, and it's a nice size as well (BTW It's moved to Charlton Park).

Maybe I just got the wrong idea, but I went with a couple of mates who're regular festival goers and we all came away saying pretty much the same thing.

I'm surprised to hear that as I've not experienced that at Reading.

I think overall festival crowds have changed over the last few years as the corporates moved in. The fact tickets for all festivals sell out so quickly makes me believe that, as you say, some people are there just because it's the cool thing to do.

I took my young kids to Glastonbury a few years back. We all had a great time. Glasto is slightly different because the music festival is only a part of the whole thing. I'll take them back at some point.

I went to 3 reading festivals in the early 90's which I enjoyed a lot, I went for a day in 2006 and absolutely hated it, music was good but the average age must have been about 19... The same age as when I started going, maybe this one's for the kids.

The Isle of Wight festival is more my cup of tea these days, there seemed to be a much wider demographic there.

Same, kicked into life at around 11:45 then suddenly every browser I had open (About 14 across three machines) kicked into life.

Wonder if they only actually opened them up then ... I got through a few times before but couldn't actually ever see a link to click on to buy the tickets.

I went to Reading as a teenager. It is great for trainspotting because there is a fantastic rail depot there, full of rare trains.

There's a bus depot in Reading too, for anyone into bus spotting.

i'll be there with girlfriend chef late weds morning pitching up on Hitchin Hill, quiet (i.e no pilled up idiots with 24hr drum n bass nearby), just 10 mins walk from the hallowed Flushable, real porcelain toilets and a great view over the whole valley.. I cant wait.

now iall i need to do is decide Jay-z or massive attack for saturday headliner.. hmmm
