There is a proposed change on the way but the COE and some of the Tories aren't too happy about it."You’re just a bad memory who doesn’t know when to go away" JR -
So did I. Another reason I haven't yet bought a house, I can move into hers instead and take half of it if we split up. Of course I won't tell her I'm only renting at the moment, so she'll be unawares.Originally posted by KathyWoolfe View PostI thought the law was changed recently to give common law partners the same rights as married couples?

No it hasn't - this was just an idea proposed by the lawyers - no doubt in response to the threat to their income posed by the lack of marriages (apologies - I have a thing about lawyers and the law grrr).Originally posted by KathyWoolfe View PostI thought the law was changed recently to give common law partners the same rights as married couples?Comment

You're not really taking this "life-partner" stuff on board are you?Originally posted by PAH View PostSo did I. That's the worst time to have one, you need to buy presents and talk about whose parents you'll be visiting...Originally posted by PAH View PostA bird's for christmas not for life."See, you think I give a tulip. It’s people’s unrealistic expectations cultivated by non stop celebrity culture, narcissistic looks and personality, body and image cult, coupled with goo goo feel good liberalism which has encouraged everyone to believe they are a potential superstar and God’s gift to the Creation. Me, I always know my place.Comment

I'm neither (CofE nor Tory) and I'm not happy about it. At the moment you have a choice - marriage gives one set of rights/benefits etc, and choosing not to gives a different set. What's the point of removing the distinction?Originally posted by SueEllen View PostThere is a proposed change on the way but the COE and some of the Tories aren't too happy about it.Comment

What's to stop a professional gold-digger from pretending she's your common law wife, even though you may never have even set eyes on her, let alone lived with her?
Easy to add herself to the electoral role for the address, and apply for a few things tying her to the place. The poor guy would probably think any letters in her name were for a previous occupier.
I suggest everyone keeps their eyes open for any mail addressed for a certain H Mills!Last edited by PAH; 26 March 2008, 17:41.Feist - 1234. One camera, one take, no editing. Superb. How they did it

Some have argued that the "Civil Partnership" should be extended to allow men and women to have a formal, recognized partnership but not have the institution of marriage which some find offensive. WTF?
