Ok, I'll let you win - just finished my work day and can't be arsed of thinking hard to find more of those words, but don't take this as a complete abandonnement of my argumentOriginally posted by MrRobin View PostWell done AtW, that's an improvement

You know what, I take it back. I think there are far more words that keep the 'e' when adding the -ment suffix than dropping the e. My humble apologies.

Maybe with a few more polite foreign imported IT contractors, this will be a nicer forum.

Yep...I have one sat in front of me from India, and one next to me!Originally posted by sappatz View Post
Their rates are probably crap, but £1 is equal to their 120 Rupees! So even £20 an hour means 19,200 Rupees a month! People in India with highly skilled jobs earn that in just over 3 years!
I think we are doomed!

Glad I'm not the only pedant on here!!!Originally posted by MrRobin View PostThe final e is dropped when you add the suffix ment to a word. Two examples are judge + ment = judgment and acknowledge + ment = acknowledgment.
However, there are some exceptions. For example: encourage + ment = encouragement, achieve + ment = achievement, and enhance + ment = enhancement.
Exercises
1. judge + ment =
2. achieve + ment =
3. acknowledge + ment =
4. enchance + ment =
5. encourage + ment =
