Is road tax still called road tax now they've successfully manipulated it to tie in with their plans to save the world from pollution?

There's little evidence of the money going anyway near maintaining the roads where I live. I'm suprised plod hasn't stopped me for the constant swerving about the road I need to do to keep my alloy wheels out of the endless potholes and sunken manholes.
Feist - 1234. One camera, one take, no editing. Superb. How they did it

£134 worse off, mainly income tax (i.e. 10% band). NI is £23 less than last year.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

It's not about maintaining the roads, it's about being green. Therefore, I look forward to he govts announcements on how they will spend all these new green taxes on green programmes.

After all, in the interests of saving the environment, surely they will ringfence this cash for environmental uses won't they?

That's what I was getting at. Road tax used to be something we paid to make sure the roads were in a reasonable state.

Now they've successfully rebranded it so they can use it to increase child benefit (i.e. more fags and booze for the parent(s)) and increase pensioners winter fuel payments.

There's no way all this extra revenue will be used for anything remotely green. It's just one big con. If they really were interested in reducing emmissions they'd bump up duty on the worst polluting fuels, so people pay more if they use more.

£137 worse off mainly due to income tax and alcohol

car tax up only £5 despite 2nd from highest band, so not sure how a Mondeo Estate could have doubled unless it's a V6
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”
