That's despite installing one update and countless internet usage, gordon bennett a PC would have frozen up by this time using IE on this site alone..

No antivirus installed here, I don't see any reason for it.
My 64bit Vista box has been up since Jan as well (Would have been longer but it needed a reboot to install an update). No drop in performance and works very well. Before I had my vista box I had an XP box that was never turned off and no real issues.

IMHO people who have unstable computers are probably filling them with unstable tulipe.

I don't bother with anti-virus software on my Linux boxes as I would have to be stupid enough to provide root access for it to do anything that woulod affect me. Are Mac's the same? If you are using an admin account to do your day to day work and not using a virus scanner I would say you are being very stupid.

The Mac will ask you to authenticate whenever you tell it to do something that requires admin access. You can turn this off but wise not to.

Well that's one more reboot than me

So vista needs a 64bit machine to run, probably as loud as a 747 at Heathrow trying to keep that one cool. The only time I hear the Mac make a noise is when eject a CD

I used windaz all me puff up until 12 months ago it was all I knew until I started playing around with unix based systems. The structure of the OS just makes for a far more stable machine.

Right back to work.. Sqeeze and click and I'm there

I dual boot with XP, but mainly for games and the odd piece of software that I can't get on the Mac but that is getting less and less often now.

I have just ordered the new MacBook Pro and I find that XP runs quicker than it does on any other PC I have ever had..

I think you'll find that my Vista desktop is totally silent (No fan noise at all), and it doesn't need 64bit to run, I just have a 64bit chip so it would be silly not to use it.

You really do seem to be a bit of a mac fanboy though. I have said nothing against the Mac which seems to be a decent enough machine yet you are desperate to make out that my machine is a pile of crap that barely manages to run and sounds like it is about to fall apart to make your Mac sound better.

I'm sure Mac's are wonderful machines but there is absolutely nothing wrong with Vista/Linux either (Windows XP was also pretty stable for me)

I refused to run Vista because when it came out I found that you could not open the .bkf file that you created in XP to restore your data!!! I figured that was kind of fundamental so if MS had fooked that up, what else was wrong!!

I do hear a lot of stories about Vista that make me think it was released way before it was ready. Has SP1 fixed any of the gaps?

                      SP1 isn't out yet.

To be honest the only problem I have had with vista is copying files across the network. There is a bug in explorer (that will hopefully be fixed in SP1) that makes it calculate how long it is going to take before it starts copying. If you use a third party product to do the copying it's fine.

Initially the drivers weren't up to scratch but now I have no problems and you can't really blame MS for driver issues, it is the companies that create the drivers who are at fault.

Overall Vista has been very stable for me and I have been able to run everything I have tried to on it so far, I am quite happy with it.
