I realise that. I just think that the individual is the best judge of the actual conditions and should therefore use what's available to them (like fog lights) that makes them feel comfortable/confident behind the wheel.

Unfortunately there are a lot of cretins out there that prove you wrong, and abuse their power at the discomfort of other road users.

In my only ever permie job I was on a trip down south to visit a client with my MD. He got pulled by the fuzz and told off for having his back and front fogs on miles after the weather had cleared. At first they flashed up a message in the back of their Range Rover as they passed, saying "switch off your fog lights". He switched off his rear ones not realising the fronts were still on, so they pulled him over. Certainly one of my fondest memories of that job.

Sounds like a license to print money

Heh, I'm already making money from snippets of the races I've been in, shown on the Danish TV often on the news in the sports section. I posted links to them here the other day. At the races I generally have two or three crews with proper kit, as well as myself with little video cameras on my bike and helmet. Links are on my blog. But for this movie the concept is all riders eye view, i.e. only stuff the rider is looking at.

I see so much crazy stuff on the roads everyday I'm building up a good set of scenes, but seem to have a preponderance of the same bad drivers, such will spoil the end product, as when you spot the same idiot over and over it looks staged.

Visibility was about 100 metres at best with big patches of fog dropping the visibility to approx 10 metres. The muppet trailing me started flashing every time I came out of a big patch of fog when the visibility upped to approx 50 - 100 metres.

Now factor in breaking distance for a car travelling at 60 MPH and I'm sure you will agree that he was being a twat.

I'm quite happy for people to flash me if I have genuinely forgotten to turn off my fogs lights and they are not needed, I take offence when they are needed.

If you can see the car behind then you should not have your fogs on.
Second, it would appear that you were driving far too fast in poor vis or were using your fogs when vis didnt require them.
You clearly state vis was about 10 metres at worst. Total stopping at 60 is about 70 metres.

If it is foggy enough to require your lamps then you should have slowed to 20.

No, no, can't vary the route for the film. That spoils the concept. The concept is I am cycling from Radhuspladsen in København, all the way up along Roskildevej to Domhuskirken in Roskilde, it is a dead straight road, good visibility, lots of lighting, cyclists have their own path, absolutely no reason for a driver not to see a cyclist or cause them grief, and at every junction a car/van/lorry does something to try and kill the cyclist. So what I do is film constantly, every trip, clip the stupid bits, and compile them together into one seamless piece, to make a movie of a cyclist going from København to Roskilde where every nutter on the road tries to kill them. To try and make it seamless I have a fancy Garmin GPS unit so I am going the same speed, pedaling at the same speed (so the bob is synced) in the same location everytime (well I try too) and I'm using Final Cut and lots of other software for the editing..

How does this make you money? You ride the race with a camera on your helmet and then sell the footage to the broadcaster?

Yeps, essentially. They come to me, I get a crew or crews together and film the race, give the producer the raw footage with notes saying where the camera person thought interesting bits are. They then get an editor to work it for what they want, and I get paid proportional to number of frames shown, where in the program, how much of the screen real-estate it covered, time of day, lots of variables that work some fancy formula.
