    look lads,

what is really wrong with paying 25 quid a day to drive into London ?

if you work in London you must be already earning a big enough wedge to cover a small outlay like that

    Milan.

I always assumed working just outside London was just as good rate wise, seeing as I have no interest in getting into banking, so why put up with the commuting hassle at all?

I assume the rates must be similar if companies outside London are to attract contractors away from London, unless they cash in on the location to be able to offer lower rates?
Feist - 1234. One camera, one take, no editing. Superb. How they did it

I work in Canary Wharf and if it didnt take 3hrs in rush hr to get here in a car, i would drive. I will be risking life and limb everyday on the bike when the weather gets better. Anything to get off the poor public transport system.
I do - I use the tube every day, which suits me fine.

The idea of Porsche moaning about the cost of transport seems a touch on the hypocritical side though.

Timing is everything - I find the Jubilee line a veritable pleasure every day. Plus, if it's busy, there's normally come totty to squeeze up against.

              Are you serious?

How long did you say you'd been contracting?

Do you think you could get a job in Swansea or Carlisle at the same (order of magnitude) rate as in EC1?

I left the City behind a long time ago but was under no illusions about the drop in rate/turnover.

You've come right out the other side of the forest of irony and ended up in the desert of wrong.

Nah, you're all mugs. You should be renting one of Dim's BTLs during the week - think of the savings in hassle etc.

Yes, but only with olive oil. Can't stand brine. Of course, I prefer them fresh from the sea.

Carlisle? I've only ever seen 1 tech job advertised there at anywhere near a suitable rate (and that was about 8 years ago when i was a permie with 2 years experience)
And being a Carlisle native I do check!

Around 10 years, though only 5 different contracts in that time, seeing as they keep extending me. Either good or cheap, maybe both.

Just going from experience. When offered roles in central London, the rates are not much different from those in Surrey and the other surrounding counties. So I've so far chosen to stay outside the M25.
