Dirty Rats !

Just reading up on it and there are now 2nd generation ones that in theory they aren't immune to !?

Got cats about and buzzards, kestrels and sparrowhawks but it didn't seem to be putting off king rat yesterday sunning himself and having the odd munch at the same time.

The Mrs doesn't know yet but asked what the holes are under the shed and greenhouse, she thinks they are rabbits !

Get a Jack Russell from EasyTerrier. Job done!

Have any of the multi talented experts on here had any success in controlling rats ? I was warned by the know it all father in law but have been feeding all and sundry to the birds and squirrels and as he predicted we now have rats including some monsters. I could be very nasty and take out the squirrels at the same time but I'll try and be nice so I need to work out how to feed them anticoagulants without the squirrels and birds also biting the dust. Any tips ?

Get an air rifle and take them out yourself.

Surrey County Council do rats and mice for free (about the only thing they actually do well!). However they will not touch squirrels (simply climbing rats in my book but more aggressive). So give your local council a buzz and see what they'll do.

When we had problems with a very angry squirrel (cross because a neighbour had a tree chopped down) trying to get into our loft I rang a local pest control company. The conversation went something along the lines of "Can you see him at the moment?", "Yes", "Give me 5 minutes and I'll be round to pop a cap in his arse".

Ignore council/environmentalist advice and do't compost anything is how I solved my problem. Rats like warm places so they hid in the compost heap so that was deposited at the local tip.

Use a mole chaser which is a large vibrator that sticks in the ground, this takes time but is sure to annoy the rats as for them it is like living next door to a disco - for you it may be fun. Get them from garden centres. It will also prevent them coming back.

Worked for me as a lad. Had a friend whose dad ran a pub in Docklands London before it was regenerated, we used to go rat shooting with air rifles loaded with hunting pellets - with points rather than flat heads

Don't be soft. Kill them all, especially the squirrels.

I'll investigate this one ! The hole the king rat is still digging is about 2 yards from the compost heap. The compost heap is full of tasty morsels that would of previously gone in the bin as we have been put on fortnightly bin collections
