I doubt I would even notice the quality difference between HD/Blu-Ray and DVD anyway, so I'm staying put with current technology for a while yet. As someone else said, when the supermarkets are knocking them out for twenty quid I'll join the HD revolution.

If so, then yes as at some point, I imagine normal DVD's will no longer be made.

I never buy DVD's at full price - only when reduced or in a sale.
Also, I think they will come down to the price of current DVD's in due course as I don't think consumers will want to pay more for them.

I think I read somewhere that because HD DVD is based on current DVD technology it has much faster access times compared to Bluray, something that is considerable when using them for anything other than watching films.

HD DVD is more versatile but Bluray has more storage, common sense won't prevail, the company that spends more promoting their format will.

Cost of players, plus the cost of transferring to making Blu Ray is still a factor, plus ISTR that Sony had said that Blu Ray would not be available for porn DVD releases. If that's still true, then there's still a "healthy" market for HD DVD out there.
