Sanctimonious ?
sanc·ti·mo·ni·ous (saŋk′tə mō′nē əs)
adjective
pretending to be very holy or pious; affecting sanctity or righteousness
In what way am I being Sanctimonious ?
My distaste, contempt and dislike for drug users, and my rabid hatred of drug dealers is not a pretense. I do not think that I am better than drug users. I Know that I am better than those pathetic excuses for humanity.
You're better than me (Or at least me several years ago) eh? And better than a significant portion of people I know, and many wonderful people I've met, not too mention many people I've worked with, and a few on this board?
What the difference in getting your kicks from alcohol, than from popping a pill or smoking a joint? Our streets are littered with the casualties of alcohol induced violence, but not so many people out kicking the tulip out of each other who've smoked a joint or dropped an pill? Too busy having a laugh and enjoying themselves, and generally doing no harm to others.
Yeah there's a health argument, but there's equally a health argument against many things that are legal and I'm not hearing many of the naysayers say let's ban alcohol because it induces violence, causes more deaths than ALL drugs combined, ruins lives and has a massive impact on wider society than just those who drink.Hang on - there is actually a place called Cheddar?? - cailin maith

Ok, if we're talking about illegal drugs, after taking advice from SNAW(probably for the first and last time), here's a question.
Why did you who have taken drugs try them in the first place?Comment

Cos it sounded like fun, because I was a rebel and because I wanted to stay all and dance all night!Comment

Why did you have your first beer?
Got friend of mine as a youth had some hash, seemed to be having a good time so I thought I'll give that a go, and you know what, I had a good time. I tried pills after year of the dance scene (I was 18 and in london when it all kicked off) and again I saw how much fun people were having on pills. And you know what, I had a great time on them as well.
My sister is pretty much exclusivly a pot smoker. She'd laugh at this argument based on how she views people who drink and the absolute hypocrisy of this kind of argument compared to her penchant. Funnily enough she's runs a very successful business, she's never prostituted herself and to my knowledge she isn't about to jump out of a building and seems pretty secure in herself. She must be the statistical oddity I guess ...Hang on - there is actually a place called Cheddar?? - cailin maith

I'm not sitting on either side of this debate as I would have no idea which side to come down on!! - been there and done it and enjoyed it but would hate my kids to get into the state I've seen my friends in ... I would say though that it takes years for you to see the consequences especially with blow.Comment

I think the same argument could be based against alcohol & cigarettes. And it's the hypocrisy of that which bothers me. At the end of the day I believe a lot of this stuff should be left up to individuals, even to the point of choosing to do things which may be detrimental to their long term health (Like drinking beer, smoking fags, toking joints, popping pills etc).Hang on - there is actually a place called Cheddar?? - cailin maith
