Well now here is a radical theory. Might it not just be the case that the cognitive tests they use at age three are a pile of keech and that most children that come from chav backgrounds are in fact as dim as their parents/single parent?
Despite there being plenty of instances that buck the trend, nevertheless, in most cases people with more money have it because they have better paid jobs. They have better paid jobs because they have better qualifications. They have better qualifications because they are brighter. Why should it be so difficult to understand that bright people tend to have bright children, and that naturally they will tend to do better? Honestly!!

Quite how you work out I've got an inferiority complex I'll never know. I'm proud of my roots, and a firm believer in environmental factors being a major issue as regards IQ in general, and people's academic performance etc. I know plenty of smart kids from council estates who never went to uni or into academia. That path isn't so common, or encouraged in those kind of environments. In middle class families kids are expected to perform academically, they generally go to better schools and have better resources available to them. Council estate kids don't. It's that simple IMO.

Bright parents are likely to have bright kids and vice versa. The bright ones tend to filter upwards but not all of them do. There are many bright kids in poor areas of society, but probably not as many as those living in a more priviliged environment.

Brains is'nt everything. If it was then there would be no contractors from who so many of us make such a good living.

How do we get these conclusions when scientists themselves can't make their mind up on what constitutes intelligence, or where it comes from vis-a-vis genetics, environment, sheer chance I'm not sure.

If we're saying middle class people are more intelligent then afraid I have to disagree, I'm met plenty of braindead middle class people in my time (Circles I seem to mingle in these days). In fact there's a whole newspaper devoted to them (The daily mail). They just go to better schools. Go to countries where educational standards aren;t as defined by your background as the UK and you'll find that the discrepancies are far less than in the UK.

Even the researchers report quoted comes to the same conclusions - but hey SB on the CUK board says differently so it must be true (If there was ever a more convincing proof required than gaging what SB believes to be true and picking the opposite, I've yet to encounter it).
