Why not educate the pedsetrians better. Does anybody remember death race 2000? Points per pedestrian? If you make all pedestrians fair game, then the chances are that they will be more cautious of cars.

This morning on the way in a guy was tailgating me. He was driving far too close. His speed was not an issue - the fact that he was having a shave was.
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

    I preferred version 1!

It's not just the pedestrians that die dude! A lot of people die in cars too, in fact I would guess majority of deaths on the road are the motorists.

Well then the crime should be failing to stop for a zebra crossing, or being a twat that can't control your car. The crime shouldn't be driving safely for the conditions and in full control but happening to be above an arbitary speed limit.

Yes failing to stop the car due to excessive speed

I take your point - excessive speed is not the #1 or even main issue, however some people are taking the piss and should be cracked down upon, particularly in 30 mph zones - 35 mph in 30 mph makes much bigger difference than 80 mph on 70 mph motorway.

I propose death to anyone texting whilst driving, deport to Birmingham if using the phone normally whilst driving.

Oh, and death to any driver that comes too close to a cylist of course.

Actually a great many people die by being knocked over while drunk. The speed of the car is not an issue it's the fact that some pi55 head runs out into the road.

Can we not just deport all cyclists to Birmingham?

                    From the article:

We have a consensus that speeding is wrong and dangerous

Twat.... The inappropriate use of speed is dangerous. Speed in itself is not.

Driver awareness is far more important than simply making statements like the one above. It sends out totally the wrong message.

A couple of scenarios for you:

                    1. A well-setup car, capable of handling the speeds involved is driven by a competent driver at 110 mph down an empty motorway in good driving conditions in the middle of the night.

                    2. A "Chelsea tractor" gets driven past a school at kicking out time in the rain at 30mph.

#1 is illegal and would you get banned from driving yet is safe... #2 is perfectly legal but far more dangerous and likely to result in death or serious injury if a child steps out.

Just trying to make the point that there is far more to road safety than not breaking a speed limit because it's there. It's about common sense, driver awareness and car control. The latter being something that is not taught anywhere near enough IMHO.

I'm also of the opinion that new drivers (note not younger, but "new" drivers) should have restrictions placed on the cars they can drive for limited period of time based on power output. Modern cars have got faster over the years and (aside from insurance costs) it's totally wrong that a driver having just passed their test could potentially jump straight into (for example) a Scooby or Evo kicking out 300 brake or so.
