I find it a bit spooky that the article mentioned Ayn Rand in the descriptions as I just ordered ‘Atlas Shrugged’ on Friday after reading an article about objectivism… I had never heard of her previously, does anyone else get these strange little coincidences or is it the matrix struggling to cope with my curiosity??!!
Are you familiar with Jung's theory of Synchronicty ? If not - then find out !

As for Goethes journey to Rome - Jung himself made many attempted journeys to Rome but each time he was thwarted - then at last he attemtped to sail to Rome from a nearby Island - when he passed out - thus he never made it to Rome .
He mentioned that the brooding energy of the ruins of Rome ovecame his concious mind - having lived there I saw a variety of newcomers being overwhelmed by the shadows of ancient Rome.
For those whom would guffaw this - then I ask you stand alone outside the Colloseum of an evening and peer through the stone vents into its dark terrible heart - a terrifying experience.

Spot on Alfred.
Another place is the balcony in the Capitoline Museums that looks out onto the forum at sunset when the crowds have gone.. You can almost hear the rumbling brooding power of the place and then despair at the pathos of it all, the mightest city western europe has ever known, reduced to rubble and the gawking of tourists who just tick the box without really understanding or feeling.
But I discovered nothing else but depraved, excessive superstition. Pliny the younger

I am not going to say this is one of those coincidences but I know exactly where you mean... Palatine hill is to the right of the view. I was in Rome for 5 days in 2005 and it’s one of the very few places that both me and the wife have agreed to return.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

That's the place.
I'm going back for the 7th time in October (with wife, taking in Milan for a few days too) and the 8th in the January (solo). The place has cast a spell on me and I can't learn enough about the place. My Bookshelves are now bereft of light fiction and full of Penguin Classics.

Awww, bless, it's about time someone took care of him.
