Ultimately, France could slip down the bog like the UK has (and it's happened SO quickly to us). But, for now, and, I think, my lifetime, French communties (not the fake shambles our goverment mistakes for communities) will, by and large, survive. Hope so!

The only way we can restore community is to make a U-turn in the way we live back to the days when we forced to interact with our neighbours and community through necessity rather than choice. Sadly, with major corporations playing an increasingly larger part in our lives, I don't see this happening any time soon.
If we'd tried in the UK maybe 20 years back, then yes. Way too late now. We're screwed. And I fear that the BNP and other sociopathic slime will be running the show sooner than we all think.Comment

Instead of people being dependent on each other, many are now dependent on the state. And that's what Socialism is all about.Originally posted by chicaneCommunity is borne from people being dependent on each other and being forced to interact in order to live their daily lives. I lived for a while in Levallois-Perret, a NW suburb of Paris. The defining view of a responsible community for me was when I noted that the Christmas trees that the town put up along the riverside walk had real glass baubles on them, and not one was trashed. Hard to imagine that in the UK.Originally posted by chicaneIn which part of France is this nice place?God made men. Sam Colt made them equal.Comment

as opposed to the moral paradise we lived in pre 97 e.g Jamie BulgerThe court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”Comment

The UK has gone over the edge. Why? Dunno. Is it the destruction of the Left in Politics? Immigration? A natural conclusion to the Post War class barriers breaking down? I have no idea. But then nobody else does, either. But it has happened.Comment

Are we harking back to a golden age that never existed? Different decades over the past century or so have had their own problems and I suspect we've always said things are going down the pan.Comment

She invented the ME generation.
Looking after Number 1 became the catchphrase.
Closely followed by the "it's nobodys fault" generation. With no fault comes no responsibilty.
Very soon you get state dependance.
I hope that is easyt enough to follow and extrapolate coz I am not going to explain.I am not qualified to give the above advice!

Welcome to New Britain.
It looks that way, of course. But the reality is that the State, as you mean, is vanishing and pretty quickly, too.
Unions? Toothless and all but gone.
Benefit System? Pleased to say that I don't have to rely on it.
Council Housing for the genuinely deserving? Ho ho!
You're on yer own, mate? Yep.
And that's when Society, Community, Nation become just words in the History books.Comment
