Aus is amazing, but eventually for me the remotness of it got to me. Plus it's got more of pretty much everything mentioned apart from the last bit: namely, higher tax, tuliploads more immigration and diversity etc.
And it's no smoking there as well ;-) then again it's warm outside ...Hang on - there is actually a place called Cheddar?? - cailin maith

here's a thought...
if you fly 6 hours out of Sydney, heading for London via Dubai or Singapore, you're still over Australia...
if you fly 6 hours out of Dubai for London, you've crossed over at least a dozen countries...

Oz is best
Away from the main cities (admittedly) in Australia, there is still the old-fashioned hospitality, friendship and camaraderie that you can't find anywhere else. Australians have got this fantastic way of making people welcome even if they hardly know you. I lost count of the times I've walked in pubs where I had previously been only a couple of times and to find someone buying me a beer. Maybe it's the language or the common culture, but you will find more monarchists in Queensland than even in deep Essex.
Unlike our failed politicians, the Aussies know how to lay the rules. John Howard, long-serving PM, said a couple of years ago:
'We welcome people from all races and religions, however this is and will remain predominantly a Christian, Anglo-saxon country'. I'd buy him a beer anytime.Comment
